how it started

In August 2023, during the Donsö Shipping Meet, a group of engaged shipping companies came together to launch an initiative to push gender equality forward in the maritime industry. Shortly thereafter, over 100 women from across the sector gathered to collaboratively create the Equality In Shipping action list - a set of concrete goals and recommendations aimed for shaping a more equal shipping industry.

Why is this important?

Women and children continue to be disproportionately affected by structural inequality, and the world is off track to meet gender equality goals by 2030 (UN Gender Snapshot 2023). The Nordic shipping industry has an opportunity to lead by prioritizing social sustainability and soft values.

What's next?

The next phase for Equality in Shipping will take place in 2025, where we will follow up on the actions taken by participating maritime companies in the Nordics and evaluate the results. By fostering accountability, we aim to achieve sustainable, lasting change.

collaboration

Together with other companies, we're turning words into action – building a more inclusive maritime industry where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued. By working side by side, we're reshaping the future of maritime to reflect the diversity of the world it serves.
